Venture South // Morocco
Schools Community Project & Trekking, Morocco
Working with local mountain communities
There is nowhere else in the world quite like Morocco. From the hustle and bustle of the vibrant North African cities like Marrakech with its Djemaa el Fnaa Square, the rugged and remote Atlas Mountains, to the emptiness of the Sahara Desert with its stunning sand dunes and big skies. Student teams will experience all these sides of Morocco during this overland developmental expedition.
Venture Force offer community projects designed to immerse team members in the very fabric of mountain community life. Our teams are based directly within our host village in the Toubkal National Park, located south of the capital Marrakech. During this expedition, student teams are supported by our experienced leaders to manage their own transport, food and accommodation, whilst travelling through the country.
The community project phase not only enables the team to assist in a project that directly benefits the host community, but also gives students the opportunity to live with and really get to know what rural mountain life is like in Morocco.
Every project is a collaboration, with decisions on which projects to tackle based on what the local community feel is a sustainable resolution to a problem they’ve highlighted. Our projects benefit not only our host communities, but everyone that takes part. A true collaboration of cultures and global citizenship!
Teams will travel south and west to Erg Chebbi, on the edge of the Sahara Desert. On the way they will negotiate the winding roads of the Tizi n’ Tichka Pass and journey through the narrow Todra Gorge and the amazing Dades Valley.
From Erg Chebbi teams will trek by camel out into the Sahara. They will spend the night camped out in the dunes, marvelling at the star filled sky, completely unaffected by light pollution.
There are several options for the trek route. All based within the Toubkal National Park, the routes vary in length from 4-6 days.
Starting from Imlil, a mecca for those attempting to summit Mt Toubkal, teams trek through lush valleys and high mountain passes and spend their nights in Berber villages. Students will be while away their evenings immersing themselves in the local culture and marvelling at the amazing night sky above.

Embrace the challenge and remember the unique experience!
Our aim is to take our student teams out of their comfort zone. Don’t expect air conditioned rooms and coaches with waitress service. We don’t provide luxury tours, knowing from experience that this is not the way to find out about real Moroccan life.
Accommodation and food is likely to be different to what students have experienced in the UK. We encourage students to embrace the difference and to get involved in every aspect of expedition life as this is an integral part of developmental expeditions.
